While you should absolutely always carry your cell phone on any overlanding trip for its GPS capabilities, camera, and the occasional chance of reception, it’s crucial to manage your expectations. Once you venture into truly remote areas – deep canyons, dense forests, expansive deserts, or high mountain passes – cell service quickly becomes spotty, unreliable, or entirely nonexistent.
