The M18 FUEL 7-1/4” Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw, paired with its accompanying lightweight stand, presented a truly compelling cordless solution. Weighing in at an incredibly light 28 pounds, this miter saw immediately impressed as one of the lightest and most versatile cordless options on the market. Its dual bevel capability further enhances its versatility, making it the only cordless miter saw of its kind. This combination offers unparalleled portability and precision for carpenters, remodelers, and trim installers who demand professional-grade cuts without the constraints of power cords. The saw was scheduled for availability in September 2017, promising a new era of cordless cutting performance.

Game-Changing Specialty Tools: Soldering, Heat, and Fastening

The M12 Soldering Iron and the M18 Compact Heat Gun are set to revolutionize the electrical, HVAC, and electronics fields. The M12 Soldering Iron, a battery-operated marvel, offers a superior take on a traditional tool by eliminating the hot exhaust typically associated with corded versions. Similarly, the M18 Compact Heat Gun is truly a first of its kind in the market, delivering cordless convenience and powerful performance. During the demo, we were able to solder a connection and apply shrink wrap in approximately 90 seconds, from start to finish, all without the entanglement of a cord. This duo provides immense flexibility for electrical and HVAC technicians, as well as electronics hobbyists, who require reliable and portable heating and soldering solutions. These invaluable tools were expected to hit the market in October and September 2017, respectively.

Finally, the M12 Stapler proved to be surprisingly impressive, redefining expectations for a tool often considered mundane. This battery-driven stapler is compact, exceptionally ergonomically friendly, and packed with features like an auto-drive option. While you might not develop Popeye-like forearms installing a vapor barrier, your wrists will undoubtedly thank you for the reduced fatigue. The M12 Stapler was slated for an October 2017 release, promising greater comfort and efficiency for a multitude of fastening tasks.

Our experience began with an illuminating factory tour, providing insight into Empire’s advanced manufacturing capabilities, followed by a dedicated product demonstration on the second day. The inherent quality and innovative features of this line were immediately apparent and spoke for themselves.

From the incredibly durable, impact-resistant UltraView LED torpedo level, designed for superior visibility in any lighting condition, to the advanced auto-calibrated digital levels available in lengths ranging from 16” to 72” with an audible tone feature, these levels breathe new life and functionality into a proven existing technology. They offer unparalleled accuracy and ease of use, making layout and measurement tasks faster and more reliable. Before the symposium, one might not expect to leave thinking, “I really need a digital, auto-calibrated 72-inch level,” but witnessing their performance makes a compelling case for upgrading to these sophisticated tools. Empire Levels are clearly engineered for the demands of modern construction, offering precision, durability, and smart features that enhance productivity for all trades.

Mastering the Air: Advanced Dust Extraction Solutions

With new OSHA regulations limiting airborne silica dust from concrete work taking effect later in 2017, Milwaukee has been proactively developing advanced solutions for dust extraction and collection. During the symposium, we rigorously tested Milwaukee’s BIG HAWG, Hole Dozer, and TORCH blades. In head-to-head competitions against leading alternatives, these carbide-tipped blades demonstrated an outstanding lifespan, even when encountering tough obstacles like rebar or hardened materials during drilling and cutting. We witnessed firsthand a single carbide TORCH blade effortlessly cut through cast iron, then boron-reinforced steel, and then more cast iron, consistently outperforming other methods. This remarkable demonstration solidified the value of Milwaukee’s carbide innovations. We fully expect to see an increasing number of carbide-tipped applications across their product range in the coming years, perhaps even a carbide-tipped circular saw blade making an appearance sooner rather than later, setting new benchmarks for tool longevity and performance.

Milwaukee’s sustained investment in providing superior jobsite lighting for tradespeople was once again a clear focus this year. These lights are engineered not only for brightness but also for durability and smart functionality. The M18 RADIUS light, for instance, goes beyond mere illumination by incorporating an integrated two-battery charger, a clever feature when operating as a corded light. Furthermore, its remote operation capabilities via the ONE-KEY app allow users to control lighting from a distance, enhancing convenience and efficiency. The task lighting solutions were made available in September 2017, while the powerful M18 RADIUS light launched in August 2017, ensuring tradespeople have access to the best lighting tools to get the job done safely and effectively, day or night.

Precision Plumbing: Redefining Efficiency and Cleanliness

The dedication to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of trade tool users was palpable across all demonstrations at the symposium, but it particularly resonated with Milwaukee’s innovative new plumbing offerings. For more substantial drain clearing tasks, the M18 Sectional Drum Machine offers enhanced portability due to its lightweight sectional construction. Its ingenious design ensures that mess is contained within an enclosed drum, minimizing cleanup time and maintaining a professional appearance in customer spaces. Moreover, it prioritizes safer operation through an auto-break feature on switch release, providing added control and preventing potential damage or injury.

M12 AirSnake: A Revolutionary Approach

However, the undisputed star of the plumbing innovations was the M12 AirSnake. This handheld cordless air compressor delivers a variably powered shot of air directly to the drain clog, clearing obstructions without the need for cumbersome and messy physical snakes that can potentially damage delicate fixtures. It offers a cleaner, faster, and less invasive method of clog removal, truly setting a new standard for drain clearing. While the M12 Drain Snake was already available, the remainder of this groundbreaking plumbing line was planned for a November 2017 release, promising to transform the plumbing trade with enhanced efficiency, cleanliness, and safety.
