Once again, the SEMA Show in Las Vegas proved itself to be the ultimate spectacle of automotive ingenuity, surpassing previous years with an astounding display of custom trucks and innovative vehicles. Although Broncos were still abundant, sharing the spotlight this year were a significantly increased number of Jeep Wranglers and, most notably, a powerful surge in Toyota Tundras. It excels as a dependable workhorse and a practical means of transport for people and gear around town. However, for those aspiring to serious overlanding expeditions, where significant amounts of heavy equipment, recovery gear, rooftop tents, and long-range fuel tanks are essential, the inherent limitations of a mid-size platform can become apparent. In such scenarios, larger trucks simply offer a more robust and comfortable solution, mitigating the need for extensive, often costly, modifications just to achieve adequate performance and safety margins. But let’s shift our focus back to the spectacular builds that truly defined SEMA this year, showcasing the pinnacle of automotive customization.

This trend is likely to continue, especially now that the legendary 200-series Land Cruiser is no longer officially sold in the USA. While new models like the Land Cruiser 250 are making waves, the absence of these stalwarts at a show so dedicated to customization highlights the changing landscape of vehicle availability and aftermarket focus. Despite this, SEMA continues to celebrate the enduring spirit of automotive culture, constantly adapting and evolving with the market.
